Accessibility Workshop
Interest in online learning demands that universities and educators address
issues of accessibility in online courses more closely; no students should
be left behind. This session will provide faculty with different techniques
and guidelines to make their online materials/courses more accessible. The
presenters will share their views and definition of accessible courses as
well as some lessons learned from designing accessible online courses (from
planning to development and delivery) at the University of British Columbia.
Techniques and checklists developed in compliance with the Web Content
Accessibility Guidelines will be discussed and analyzed.
Afsaneh Sharif
Afsaneh is an instructional designer/project manager at the Centre for
Teaching, Learning and Technology. She interested in the application and
integration of technology into the learning environment in a way that both
enhances learning and makes it easy for instructors and students to use. She
likes to explore diversity and cultural challenges in an online environment,
and how the visual representation of information aids learning. Particular
interests for her include accessibility, personalized learning, community of
learning, open education, and instructional/learning design.
Josefina Rosado
Josefina Rosado is a Web Designer/Programmer for the CTLT Distance and
Blended Learning Team. She works with faculty and instructional designers to
design, develop and deliver online and blended distance learning courses.
She likes to explore ways to make web content and education more accessible
to different users. Her interests are accessibility, communications, open
education and mobile learning.
